Body/Mind

Theme for 40 Years

In 1978, I made a painting called “Buried Heart, Escaping Head.”

This was my body speaking to me. I realized my body/heart/mind/spirit were not connected. I was not embodied, but living in my head. I also realized this separation is embedded in our culture.

The journey began. For 40 years, I have explored this separation of body from mind and spirit, through making art about both the suffering caused by the separation and the healing of it, a vision of unity.

If we each do our work of living in our bodies, we can help ease the suffering, our own and the world’s.
