Pleasure Pastels 1978-84
This work comes when I am on dreamtime, where body and mind are one. Dreamtime is when there is time and space to drop down into a deeper level of experiencing life. This I call the mythic level which is always here. I just don’t see it when I am skimming the top on work-a -day, busy, linear time.
The place matters. I soak in the feeling of the land: air, water, the people, animals, shape, line, and color of the place. We’re connected. Mostly by water, the places where I created this work are diverse: Puerto Escondido in Mexico, Candidasa in Bali, towns along the Mississippi River from Brained to New Orleans (Circle of Water Circus); a no longer existing, morning glory covered, sun shining through green leaves porch on the West Bank in Minneapolis.
I don’t plan the image, I receive it, not knowing what it will be until it arrives. The work expresses how all life is connected, healing the split between body of earth and mind. Landscape as woman, as holy, as body: transformations and interweaving of land, water, rock, bone, animal, human, plant. This work is Pleasure.
