Healing 1968-75

Often I make art to heal myself.  Expressing the distress lets me know how I feel. Images of being held give me comfort. I draw what I need. Its like those old cartoons where they draw a door to escape.

In general, it is healing to make art. It connects me to myself and what I’m drawing. It opens me. Its often a pleasure.

May my art be healing for you and give you what you need.

I made this sculpture just before I dropped in at Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater.  I stayed full time for the next 5 years learning this beautiful form.  I was a puppet theater artist for the next 33 years.
Before I went to the theater, my friend kept telling me, “You should go to Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater.” I said, I’m not interested. Puppets are dumb.”
