Bodies of Earth 2022-present
Bodies of Earth 2022 – present
This series began in 2022 in a garden in Mexico. I began seeing human bodies within trees, plants, flowers – taking their shapes, bending/swaying like them. Intertwined – interdependent.
The awkward human figures are drawn with my non-dominant hand. This process happens, not planned or controlled, so the unconscious can speak.
I want these paintings to reduce the pressure of perfection and lovingly accept the awkward, vulnerable, fearful, irritating, wounded parts in each of us. Nature loves us. Can we learn from nature to love ourselves and each other?
We belong to the Earth, she is our Mother. Same as trees, flowers, broccoli, worms, dandelions, rocks, rivers, stars, birds. Can embracing this console and give us courage and joy?
Making this work helps me connect with the earth. I love painting outside, immersed in the energy of earth. Surrounded by beauty, painting this glorious offering, I’m fed by its infinite colors, shapes, lines, composition, and relationships. Nature holds me in the present moment. I respond in paint.
