Melting 2013

Melting was created with the support of Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater through Puppet Lab. This entailed six months of support to create and produce a show.

The impetus for our show was the moral confusion which many of us in our community of white, middle class, south Minneapolitans are experiencing around the issue of worldwide suffering.

Synopsis: A dialogue takes place between two women, Angela and Evangeline. Angela is struggling with guilt, Evangeline is living in the present moment.

Angela – “I feel guilty. There is so much suffering in the world and I should be doing something about it. But I don’t want to. I want to be comfortable and forget about it. Eat spice drops and make art.”

Evangeline – “Not everyone is called to do this. Guilt is useless. Follow your calling. Compassion is a circle that includes ourselves. Self love uncovers the cement over our hearts so we can love others.”

We examine these questions:
  • What good is death? In the plant cycle of life, death, life – death is needed for new life to grow. Is this true for human’s?
  • Almost every Liberation Movement requires people who are willing to be beaten, tortured, killed to make life better for others. How do thousands’s of people have the courage and love to sacrifice themselves? Does the prison of the small, separate self die? Are we born to a new life of a consciousness of oneness- of God, of our connection to All?
  • Do we find bliss when we surrender, Melting our egos and opening to this consciousness that is not separate?
